The Search

As you know Toyin and I attended Modé's Art Exhibition known as The Search. Her exhibition showcases her  take on African Beauty in an impressionistic manner. Aside from the canvas paintings Modé also ventures into artwork for technology such as cases and skins for iPads, iPhones, Blackberrys and Macbook Laptops. We loved the fact that her artwork was not just portraits of people in her life but that she had the creative ability to create fictional individuals and give them their own persona that would make them look familiar to the human eye.

In some of her more tribalistic paintings she was able to capture the beauty of nudity in African women, which is seen as a taboo in Nigeria's media today due to the conservative nature of our culture. It is refreshing to see a young artist push the boundaries of art in the Nigerian community, and we hope to see more people enjoy and get inspired by her work as much as we have.

There is still time to see her work
